Press Release for Apollo

SOLD OUT – DOWNLOAD ONLY!

Mark Perry originally made his name as the editor of the UK’s first punk fanzine’Sniffin’ Glue’ before starting the Step Forward label and forming Alternative TV. Since then Mark has released over 40 albums and singles and been the subject of an intensive reissue programme.

‘Apollo’is Alternative TV’s first album of all-new material since 1994s ‘My Life As A Child Star’. Although not a concept album, Mark Perry wrote most of the songs during an intense three month period and he sees it as his most cohesive album since 1979’s’Vibing Up The Senile Man’.

The various styles of the album reflect Mark’s diverse influences, from the almost glamrock of the title track to the latin-tinged ‘Politics In Every Sausage’, Mark throws a lot of different ideas into the melting pot but still comes up with an album that flows from start to finish. ‘Apollo’sees Mark’s first use of programmed drums which are mixed with live percussion to add texture.

Apart from his customary acerbic vocals, Mark also plays guitar, keyboards and most of the percussion. He is assisted by former Long Decline members Luci Bocchino (guitar) and Rob Ugly (bass) with guest appearances from long time ATV fan Roddy Frame (ex-Aztec Camera) and Nag (Door And The Window/The Reflections).

Lyrically, ‘Apollo’ is probably Mark’s most ambitious album since the groundbreaking ‘The Image Has Cracked’. Subjects range from the Apollo moon landing to what happens when the tube train gets stuck in a tunnel! Yet again, Alternative TV prove that they are still the most interesting and relevant group to emerge from the original UK punk scene.

‘Apollo’ contains 16 new tracks and is packaged in a deluxe 12-page booklet drawn by’Space Jam’flim animator Rufus.

‘Apollo’ is quite simply Mark Perry’s greatest work since ‘The Image Has Cracked’.
